Clearly, I have a problem. But, I’d probably do crazier things for The Early November.
Also, I found this little addition inside my wooden box:

It’s a half & half split of ultra-clear and clear wax inside of an alternate screen printed cover - a super limited mis-press.

Fall Out Boy | Folie à Deux | Island Records | AB: Clear Red | CD: Clear Yellow | signed
Jesus fucking christ. 10 minutes after I posted the photo of From Under The Cork Tree there’s like 15 emails in my inbox and a fuckton of likes and reblogs. Have it your way. Here’s my signed, pre-order copy of Folie à Deux.
Gimme a minute and I’ll post something else you might like/lol at.
Fall Out Boy | From Under The Cork Tree | Fueled By Ramen / Island Def Jam | Black | /1000
I went to Music Millenium here in Portland yesterday to catch an acoustic in-store set by The Civil Wars (RIYL: folk, country, She & Him) and luck was on my side. I found this copy of From Under The Cork Tree in the used bin for $15! The cover has a bunch of ring wear and a dented corner. But after some cleaning the disc itself is beautiful. I’d love to get my hands on a cleaner looking version (especially the clear gold variant). But I’m happy for now.
I finally received the last single for Steel Train’s 7” Of The Month Club today. Here’s a rundown:
#1: Sky Blue | /200
Side A: Shapeshifter
Side B: Call It Off (Tegan and Sara cover)
#2: Yellow | /200
Side A: You Are Dangerous (RAC Remix)
Side B: Better Love
#3: Pink | /200
Side A: Terrible Thrills
Side B: Sadie (Joanna Newson cover)
#4: Orange | /200
Side A: Science Fiction/Double Feature (from The Rocky Horror Picture Show)
Side B: Angelica
I’m excited to listen to all of these back to back this week. Fun story: the cartoon cover art in the 2nd photo was done by Alia Shawkat. You may know her as Maeby Fünke.
I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody’s Business | Gold Rush
I could have posted this over a week ago when it actually arrived in the mail. I held off though. It’s no secret that Ace’s music is extremely personal for me. I’ve been somewhat of a crazy fan of his for 7 years now. I am old. I’ll support the man through anything. And when he announced earlier this year that he was on the brink of calling it quits, I and many others sprang into action. He launched an extremely successful Kickstarter project that funded the recording and release of Gold Rush. The above photo features the premium I received for my donation - a limited CD copy and photo book documenting the recording process. But, I held off on posting because I needed time with this record.
I’ll leave all my personal thoughts out of this. Message, text, or call me if you want an in depth analysis of how I feel. But I will say that Ace never ceases to find the most cunning and catchy delivery of some extremely emotional lyrics. The record reminds me of The Format - it sounds happy and poppy and upbeat. It’s Ace’s first real summer-feeling record. But spend time with his lyrics and you find longing and losing that cut deep. I will say that I feel like his vocals are too compressed on this. He has range and depth and he should put that out there. The Early November’s Chris Badami-produced albums showcased it more than Ace’s own production.
The CD packaging was done by Tom Leggett who I’ve been following on Tumblr for quite awhile now. He makes some really smart and innovative packaging.
Bonus content: guess who’s the first name thanked in the liner notes:

Paramore | All We Know Is Falling | Fueled By Ramen | Clear Red | /2000
Wife made fun of me for buying this at Hot Topic yesterday. Maybe because I’m still buying records from a Hot Topic. Or maybe because I’m 24 years old and still like a record made for and by 16 year old girls. Look at all the fucks I give. (Answer: none) This record is great and I’m glad Travis from Hot Topic got FBR to repress it. Plus, when I brought it home and put it on, suddenly wife knew ALL the words. And even had a cute little dance to go along with it.
I remember when this record first came out. It was receiving rave reviews on Absolutepunk and I already had tickets to Warped Tour. So I went and saw Paramore play on the tiny pink stage that is Grrl’s Garage and enjoyed it. Though, I’m still bitter that the idiot girl I was dating back then made me leave Warped that day before Fall Out Boy played, under the excuse “you’ve seen them too many times already. You don’t need to see them again.” Bitch. She also told me “they’ll never go anywhere. They’re not that good.” I digress.
I can’t say I’ve been big on much of Paramore’s music since AWKIF. There’s been a few songs here and there, but something about this one still resonates with me. Maybe it’s purely nostalgia, maybe not. I’ll hang onto this even if it’s just to see wife sing and dance again.
Bonus content: here’s a horrible photo of a rainy Hayley Williams from that VA Beach Warped Tour show back in 2005:

Thankfully my concert photography has slightly improved since then.

I’m on my feet,
I’m on the floor,
I’m good to go.
And all I need is just to hear a song I know.
I wanna always feel like part of this was mine.
I wanna fall in love tonight.
