She & Him | Volume 3 | Merge Records | Robin’s egg Blue /500 (limited mailorder only edition!)
Last day at home before 3 weeks of tour mailbox hotness! The latest offering from Zooey D and M Ward. Blissful, summery pop jams with pristine production by M Ward. Zooey’s doing some interesting things with her deeper vocal tones. Not sure if I’m into yet. But glad to see M Ward is getting some more vocal time. And I’m always a fan of Kate Harmer’s clean, bright, & vintage looking school designs and layouts for She & Him’s records. That inner sleeve is perfection. So’s the lyrics insert with rad photography from Autumn de Wilde.
Also, it’s hard not to think Zooey’s singing at Nick Miller…

Someone please make Schmidt/Max Greenfield make a record.
Sorry for the watermark. Unless you’re a lazy eBay flipper.

Ryan Adams’ massive 15LP (13 pound) Live After Deaf box set finally arrived on my doorstep yesterday. I’m only halfway through it, but I took a bunch of photos and posted a little write up. Check it out?: http://www.playthisrecord.com/blog/ryan-adams-live-after-deaf/

For the late night crowd: check out this gorgeous 4LP set from Right Away, Great Captain! RAGC is the side project from Andy Hull (Manchester Orchestra) - a concept band about a 17th century sailor who heads out to sea and returns home to find he’s been cuckolded by his own brother. Indie music with excoriating lyrics. Full write up and photo set here - http://www.playthisrecord.com/blog/right-away-great-captain-trilogy-4lp-set/

Wow, Avett Brothers fans are dedicated. That Scott Avett photo I took at Bonnaroo has seen quite a bit of attention. So here’s one of Bob Crawford at Bonnaroo, who I’m told doesn’t play with the band all too often. I’ll be posting lots more photos soon on my photography website.
