The White Stripes | Elephant (10th Anniversary Reissue) | Third Man Records | AB: Black/Red split / CD: White
I only have 7 days off between tours, so expect lots of record posts! I’ve been on tour for the past 4-5 Record Store Days, so I make my Dad do my bidding for me. He hits up some shops back in my hometown (Charlottesville, VA) that are less trafficked than those here in Portland and almost always finds all of the things I need. Thankfully this year’s list was short. But this was first and foremost. Gotta satisfy the Jack White fanaticism. It just arrived in the mail an hour ago. Along with the Pornography 7” (also have to satisfy the Ryan Adams fanboy) & Tift Merritt’s Markings 12”. Side 1 of Elephant had some weird mix issues on “There’s No Home For You Here”, but the rest was awesome.
Apologies for the watermark. Unless you’re a a lazy eBay reseller.

A bunch of Third Man goodies showed up in yesterday’s mail, via my Dad. He picked up the Rome 2LP for me when he hit up the Rolling Record Store last week. I’ve been coveting that thing for a year now. He also sent me Vault package #13! Today’s a good day to be my turntable.

Hey Jack White - is it “Sixteen Saltines” or “Sixteen Salteens”? Your tracklists and center labels disagree.

The B-side of the 12” version of the “Sixteen Saltines” has a playable etching featuring a cover of U2’s “Love Is Blindness”.

Jack White’s new record Blunderbuss hit my turntable for the first time last night and it’s so damn good. Heard it yet?

Hotness in my mailbox today:

The Raconteurs | Live At Third Man | Third Man Records | Black / Blue half/half | Vault Subscriber Exclusive

The White Stripes / The Dead Weather | Split Remix 7” | Third Man Records | Black | Vault Subscriber Exclusive

Dad sent me a couple more things from his most recent Vault Subscriber package. The Remix 7” features a remix of the Stripes’ “Hardest Button To Button” by Beck and a remix of Dead Weather’s “Hang You From The Heavens” by Josh Homme & Mark Lanegan.

Spinning in 3…2..1…

The White Stripes | Party Of Special Things To Do 7” | Third Man Records | Vault Exclusive: Tri-Color: Red/White/Black
Miss me?
Up above is the Vault Exclusive tri-color 7” featuring The White Stripes covering Captain Beefheart, “Party Of Special Things To Do” on the A-side and “China Pig”/”Ashtray Heart” on the Ω-side. My own Dad got roped into Jack White’s addictive record club. And I guess he’s not big into Jack’s music, he prefers rockabilly (new Wanda Jackson, etc) because he’s given me a couple exclusive items so far, this and a Dead Weather 7” from last year. I’m certainly not complaining.
I’ll try to throw up some of my recently acquired records before I jump on another plane next Tuesday. Heading to Europe this time for more adventures with Josh Ritter & The Royal City Band. See you there?

The White Stripes | White Blood Cells | Third Man Records | Red/White split | /500
I can’t be upset at The White Stripes and their official break up. They accomplished so much. And Jack is still applying his incredible genius to more projects than I’m able to keep up with. They ended amicably, conquered the world, and never wrote a bad album. I can respect that. And I hope for the best for the both of them. Now, someone tell Jack White that I want do his bidding.
Above, the red/white split wax of White Blood Cells, my favorite White Stripes record. Kathrine was so kind enough to brave the cold and a ridiculous line outside of Third Man Records in Nashville to pick this up for me back in December. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to post it/publicly thank her. So thank you, Kathrine. You fucking rule. I owe you.
Add this to my red/white split copy of the self-titled record and I’ve got a fancy little White Stripes re-issue collection going. Someone wanna hook me up with a red/white copy of De Stijl for not a crapton of money?

Currently spinning De Stijl. It’s been years since I played any White Stripes on a stereo. I probably listened to White Blood Cells every single day of 9th grade. On the bus on my discman to and from school and then blasted it in my room on my little 5-disc changer stereo. Spinning these brings back a lot of deeply embedded memories. And I’m finding a new appreciation for the minimalism of the music. There’s so much breathing room with only the two of them playing. It’s incredible.

The White Stripes | The White Stripes | Third Man Records | Red/White split | /500
So this happened yesterday. I pre-ordered the White Stripes re-issues from Third Man on December 1st along with a handful of 7”s I had been meaning to pick up. So either Third Man rewards large orders or I just got extremely lucky. But, they threw in one of the red/white split copies of the self-titled record into my mailer. Only 100 were being put into mailorder copies, with the other 400 being split among physcial locations. I’m a lucky boy. And I have no intentions of flipping this guy, despite some of them fetching $200-500 on eBay right now.
