Bands like Beware Of Safety need more attention. They write beautiful and inspired music and are only held back by their inability to tour year round. dogs, an album they released in 2009 is by far one of my favorites in the instrumental/experimental/post rock genre. Their newest record, Leaves/Scars, released just three weeks ago on Mylene Sheath is no different. The hype track that they released ahead of the album, “Meridian” is heavy and exciting - with bass lines lifted right from Muse’s earlier work and guitars and buried shouts and screams much like their label-mates, Gifts From Enola. But the second “Meridian” ends the album launches into beautiful soundscapes and undulating guitar tones. “Lowercase West” might be my favorite track on the album.

I’m loving the Angel Eyes track more so far. It’s instrumental and very bass heavy. While the Beneath Oblivion track is full of atmospherics and begins with clean, looming vocals turning into scathing shouts that sounds like the Fell Beasts that the Ringwraiths ride on in Lord Of The Rings.

Giants’ self-titled 7” showed up today! For the unfamiliar, Giants play very passionate post-rock in the same vein as Explosions In The Sky. Their two full-length albums feature much stronger material than what’s featured on this 7”. But it’s beautiful, fun music none-the-less.

Beware Of Safety’s new album Leaves/Scars went up for pre-order last night. They’re a criminally underrated instrumental/experimental/post-rock band from Boston, MA, now based out of LA. Here’s all the info you need. I wouldn’t sleep on this:

Brown Shark, Red Lion is a big step away from what fans of their previous album I Am Your Bastard Wings should expect. The band went through a handful of lineup changes and decided to write a record more akin to 70’s-80’s pop than brooding ambient music. Brown Shark, Red Lion will capture the attention of David Bowie and Brian Eno fans for sure. The vocals are clean and high in the mix, backed by spacey guitars, piano, and even some strings. I still need to spend a lot of time with this record. But please check out the stream above and consider grabbing a physical copy from Mylene Sheath. Despite the heavy shipping delays (due to some pressing plant errors) the album is definitely worth the wait.
